3. Sunflowerfest, Hillsborough, Co.Down, 28 – 30 July. The 2017 festival is themed sci-fi and space, string theory and the multiverse. The organisers are designing and building the best festival to date at Tubby’s Farm, where fancy dress is actively encouraged.

4. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë – Chapterhouse Theatre Company, Enniskillen Castle, 27 July. Adapted from Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel, Chapterhouse Theatre Company presents one of the greatest romances of English literature. This beautiful story of undying love is brought alive under a summer sky at Enniskillen Castle. Play starts at 6.30pm.

5. Magilligan Bioblitz, Benone Tourist Complex, Limavady, 29-30 July. Causeway Coast and Glens Heritage Trust are teaming up with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to hold a 24-hour long BioBlitz to record the coastal wildlife from Downhill to Magilligan. Over the 24-hour period scientists, naturalists and members of the public race against the clock to find as many species as possible.

6. Strabane Market, Strabane, 28 July. The Alley Theatre welcomes the very best of artisan traders, offering visitors a friendly shopping experience with a wide selection of specialty foods and handmade crafted products.

7. A Level Playing Field: Women in Sport, PRONI, Belfast, 27 July. 2017 is an iconic year for women’s sport in Northern Ireland. PRONI will present Women in Sport Archives alongside talks from the IFA, IRFU and GAA along with a preview of the new drama, Rough Girls.

8. Belly dance workshop, Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast, 30 July. Designed to give you an introduction and also a taste of what Belly Dance is. You are welcome if you are a complete beginner or if you have done some belly dancing before. Workshop begins at 12.30pm.

9. West Side Story, Derry~Londonderry, Millennium Forum, 27 – 29 July. The Millennium Forum Youth Musical Group brings the dynamic musical to stage. Based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is set in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. This milestone musical explores the rivalry between two teenage gangs, The Jets and The Sharks.

10. Frampton vs Gutierrez, SSE Arena, Belfast, 29 July. Carl Frampton will make his ring return against Andres Gutierrez at Belfast’s SSE Arena in a WBC world featherweight title eliminator. Frampton has not fought since his loss to Leo Santa Cruz in their WBA title fight in Las Vegas in January.

July kicks off with world class sporting action and festival fun!

World class sporting action kicks off a busy month across the Causeway Coast and Glens this July. With two football tournaments, a road racing event, and the spectacular Red Sails Festival there will be plenty for visitors to enjoy.

The six-day Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup begins on Monday 17th July – attracting over 300 teams to the North West. The opening parade takes place on Tuesday 18th July, and is always a highlight of the international event. Every participant has the chance to play as much football as possible, while enjoying the unique camaraderie, friendly rivalry and superb hospitality.

Super Cup NI kicks off at various venues throughout the Causeway Coast from Sunday 23rd July – Friday 28th July. Attracting competitors, officials, players and spectators from all around the world, venues across the Borough will showcase the talent of the sport’s future stars. Taking part in the event is an aspiration for many young footballers, and it’s eagerly anticipated by clubs near and far, thanks to its reputation as the world’s most prestigious youth football tournament. You can show your support for the competitors by going along to the opening parade, which takes place in Coleraine town centre on Sunday 23rd July from 7pm. The Parade will set off from the Bertie Peacock statue in the Diamond and travel through the centre of the town via Railway Road to Coleraine Showgrounds for the Opening Ceremony.

In Armoy, the village is revving up for the annual Race of Legends which begins on Sunday 23rd July.  The three mile circuit harks back to the 1970’s and the days of the legendary Armoy Armada. It attracts large crowds of spectators and bike enthusiasts, with activities, events and entertainment for all the family throughout Race Week.  Practice takes place on Friday 28th July with the racing action getting under way on Saturday 29th July.

The Red Sails Festival returns to Portstewart from Sunday 23rd July, with a packed programme of free entertainment including live music, culture, dance, competitions, workshops and activities for children throughout the week. The festivities will come to a colourful end with a fireworks display organised by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council at 10.30pm on Saturday 29th. Before this, there’ll be live music in the Crescent, with Bone Idol playing sounds from the 60s right through to current hits.

Football fans and road racing enthusiasts can look forward to world class displays right here on our doorstep. Fermanagh

” Stop it Nurse” is an hilarious Ulster comedy by Sam Cree. Set in a Belfast hospital during the 60s the Ward Sister rules the roost! We follow the fortunes and misfortunes of the patients in the male surgical ward. With all the ingredients for a typical evening of pure Cree manic magic, Stop it Nurse runs at the Ardhowen Theatre for three nights only from 20th to 22nd July.

Tyrone

Steeped in history, heritage, folklore, fauna and culture, the shores of Lough Neagh – the largest freshwater lake in the United Kingdom – provide the backdrop for a unique set of one Lough Neagh Tours’ day tours which have  launched just in time for summer.  The Lough Neagh Western Forts Tour, Co Tyrone takes in the forts and castles on the western shore of the lough.  The Western Forts Tour starts at the impressive and imposing Ardboe Cross before a stop at Hill of The O’Neill, Dungannon and on to the spiritual site of Tullyhogue Fort on the outskirts of Cookstown.  Mountjoy Castle is the final stop where visitors can imagine the grandeur of the castle on the hill in the early 1600s with its battles and power struggles between the O’Neills and the O’Donnells. Derry/Londonderry

The Super Milk Wild Air Run, St Columb’s Park, 22nd July,  is a dynamic fun run featuring 10 giant inflatable obstacles as part of a 5k course. It includes Europe’s largest inflatable slide which is 60M long!  The event can be undertaken by all fitness levels. The 10 obstacles combine agility, creativity and a vast amount of fun. The event is for both adults and children, seven years and up, and is a very enjoyable day for anyone from 7 to 70.

Antrim

Take a walk in the country at The Antrim Show this Saturday 22nd July.  From cookery demonstrations by Paula McIntyre in the Festival of Food marquee, to livestock, sheep shearing and horse jumping competitions there’s plenty to keep all of the family amused. Fun for all the Family at Stendhal Festival

Stendhal Festival is Northern Ireland’s biggest and best grass-roots music and arts festival.

With over 100 performances from the likes of Ash, The Magic Numbers, Sharon Shannon and Lisa McHugh taking place over August 11 and 12 at Ballymully Cottage Farm, Limavady, there is certainly plenty of musical variety but did you know that the festival also has a dedicated family programme that caters to children and families of all ages?

Such is the focus on the family aspect of the festival, Stendhal has won awards naming it Ireland’s Best Family Festival over the years and organisers of the event are keen to improve the family and children’s entertainment offerings each and every year.

This year families can enjoy; Drumming Workshops, Storytelling,  puppet shows, dance workshops, mini boat making workshops, clay modelling, bush craft workshops, arts and craft workshops, laughing yoga, a sensory tent,  Circus skills performances, big bubble making and loads more.

Organiser Ross Parkhill explained: “The family element to the festival is hugely important for us. We want to provide an incredibly safe space for youngsters to not only enjoy the specific entertainment put on for them, but to also discover a wider world of music and the arts.

“We believe that introducing children to the arts at a young age can help sow the seeds of innovation in future generations and it’s always great to see families enjoying the event, that’s why our family ticket is priced in such a way as to make Stendhal a really affordable option for families.”

The family programme this year will include two dedicated family tents, one for creative workshops and one for performances, while there will also be family themed acts taking to the other stages around the festival site as well.

One of the family tents, the Discovery play tent, is brought to you by The Dry Arch Children’s Centre, a Limavady based day care facility which this year is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Stephen Lowry of the centre spoke of how proud they were to be coming back to Stendhal.

“The Dry Arch Children’s Centre is really excited to be part of the Stendhal Festival this year for the second time to add our very own spin to the family experience,” he said.

“Our ‘Discovery Play Tent’ will be bigger and better this year and will have loads of fun play activities for young children; encouraging them to learn through play; creating, investigating, exploring and most importantly have fun.”

He added:  “The Dry Arch Children’s Centre is proudly celebrating its 20th anniversary supporting families. Some of our day-to-day activities include day care, SureStart programmes, youth and family support services and community events. Award winning comedian Owen O’Neill performs in Limavady.

Award- winning comedian and actor Owen O’Neill brings his hit one-man show Red Noise to the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre, Limavady on Thursday 27th July at 8pm.

Red Noise is the perfect combination of stand-up comedy, theatrical monologue and poetry alongside Owen spinning hilarious true stories of his life.

One of sixteen siblings, he talks about queueing for breakfast, family dramas, how he was struck by lightning when he was nine years old and how his feature film debut with Liam Neeson went horribly wrong.

Owen has toured the world with his shows accumulating in a string of awards. These include three Fringe Firsts at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where he won The Edinburgh Critics Award for Best Comedy, the Angel Award for Best One-Man Show and the Time Out Comedy Award. He also won Best Actor at the Irish Theatre Festival, New York and Best Short Film at the Boston Film Festival in 2008.

The New York Times has hailed him as a ‘master storyteller’ whilst The Spectator described his shows as ‘dramatically accomplished and emotionally charged, with both papers awarding him five star reviews.

The Portaferry Gala Festival is celebrating 50 years this year and is offering some spectacular new events to mark the anniversary from 15th to 21st July.  The festival highlights are an opening extravaganza with live band, The Pitching the Sheaf Competition, live band Ritchie Remo, kids fancy dress, open air boxing, comedy play, live radio, youth challenge and Xbox event, paper boat race, live wrestling, 10 mile run, tea dance for seniors and main highlight of the week annual float parade display of fabulous floats and other carnival entertainment.

During July, Craftswirl at the Armagh Visitor Information Centre will host a beautiful exhibition by Leona Devine.  Leona is an honours graduate in Fine and Applied Art from the University of Ulster, where she specialised in Ceramics. In 2014 Leona was awarded the Tyrone Guthrie Centre Regional Bursary by the Roe Valley Arts and Heritage Committee.  Leona’s work is greatly inspired by the natural landscape and environment where she lives and works. Based in the countryside, she draws inspiration from the rural landscape and the animals which inhabit it.

Fermanagh

If you have, be prepared for a whole new level of engagement!

Robothespian has received an upgrade and this summer W5 are introducing their new and improved robot to the public. The robotic actor and entertainer is now capable of communicating and interacting in a way that few people will have experienced before.

He will now be engaging with visitors in one to one conversations, entertaining crowds and making lots of new friends!
