Edited and directed specifically for schools by Arthur Webb, this fast-moving production follows the eventful life of the evil Scottish warrior and his power-hungry wife. Prophecy, witchcraft, murder and revenge all play a part in their tragic demise and guarantee a captivating production for audiences of all ages.

Take part in the Jungle NI’s Zombie Run on 9th October at 11am. Brave participants will complete a daring 5K obstacle trail whilst being chased by running zombies.  There’s nothing between you and the finish line, apart from some obstacles. Oh, and the Zombie living dead – did we forget to mention that?  Each runner starts with three lives (flags worn around the waist), & as you run the 5k, through mud and obstacles, it’s up to the zombies who will be attempting to steal one of your three lives. It’s up to you to make it to the finish line with as many lives intact as possible.

The Ballygally Castle is the setting for Perfect Bliss’ Wedding Fayre on Sun 9th October 2016 from 1.00pm.  The Event will showcase the newly refurbished Hotel, host over 50 Wedding Suppliers, showcase Bridal, Grooms & MOB/G & Occasion Wear on the Catwalk.  All complimented with live entertainment.  There will be some lovely spot prizes to be won throughout the afternoon.

In the Game of Thrones Indonesian Shadow Art Workshop at the Market Place Theatre this Saturday you will use the intricate shadow art of Wayang Kulit to make your own Game of Thrones character. Firstly draw and cut-out your favourite character, then using a scalpel, a hammer and hollow hole punches create intricate details for your shadow puppet, then piece the puppet together with bamboo canes. You can then try putting on a shadow play using a screen and lights and perform a favourite scene. Suitable for 16+.

The Lyric Theatre present Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme at the Marketplace Theatre Armagh this Saturday 23rd July.  On 1 July 1916, the 36th Ulster Division took part in one of the bloodiest battles in human history. The Battle of the Somme. One hundred years on this major new co-production is directed by Headlong’s Artistic Director, Jeremy Herrin. In the extraordinary circumstances of World War 1, eight ordinary men are changed, changed utterly. This iconic war play by Frank McGuinness is a powerful portrayal of mortality, love and loss.  An Abbey Theatre, Headlong, Citizens Theatre and Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatre co-production.

The Lady of the Lake is a title that has been associated with Lower Lough Erne, Particularly the area of the great waterway close to Irvinestown, Killadeas, Lisnarick, Castle Archdale and Aughinver. The Lady of the Lake Festival is a Summer Event which takes place every July in Irvinestown, providing 11 days of Fun for All! Folklore has it that the legendary lady walked amongst the mists & islands of Lough Erne bringing a sign of good times ahead! Enjoy an extravaganza of traditional Irish rock/folk music with Ireland’s best loved and home grown folk rock band, The Whistlin’ Donkeys, this Friday 22nd July at the Alley Theatre Strabane.  Joining them on stage will be guitar legend Johnny Fean and the Siamsa Gael Irish Dance Troup. Throughout the evening the Donkeys will feature some hits from their last top selling album Sung Like A Donkey and for the first time they will play a number of tracks from their forthcoming album and of course a mix of old favourites.  Local singer Brian Hassan will also be joining the Donkeys on stage in an evening not to be missed!

Taking place in the picturesque seaside town of Portstewart, the Red Sails Festival is a non-profit making festival organised by the Charitable Portstewart Community Association which runs from Sunday 24th July through to Saturday 30th July.  A fabulous week combining a diverse range of entertainment  centred on the Portstewart Promenade  with live music, culture, dance, competitions, ending with a spectacular firework show. The majority of the entertainment and events are free and a wide range of family and children’s activities including workshops, street theatre and talent competition.

The Corrymeela Community invites you and your family to join them at their Ballycastle Centre on Sunday 24th July for the Summer Open Day. This year’s Castlewellan Show takes place on Saturday 16th July and the committee are looking forward to showing off the best of local agriculture, food and rural pursuits.  Q Radio will be on site and broadcasting live with Local DJ Big O spinning the tunes and having a bit craic.  With dog agility, show jumping, cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, rabbits, pigs and home industries spread across fifty acres of Castlewellan Forest Park we are all set to offer a great day out for all the family.   The Show offers a great opportunity to enable children to get close to a range of animals with kid goats, lambs, NI Rabbit Club, alpacas as well as an array of livestock.   Visitors will get a chance to try out felt making, weaving, straw making and watch the blacksmith and cookery demonstrations.  The County Down Young Farmers are set to entertain the crowds with tug of war, tractor driving and water games.   See castlewellanshow.com for full programme.

The Royal Irish Fusiliers Museum Armagh host a new exhibition “Der Tag”.  July the 1st cost the British Army approximately 57,000 casualties, more than any other day in their entire history.  This infamous day in The Great War, was the first day of a battle that would rage on through to November.  The Royal Irish Fusiliers 1st, 7th, 8th and 9th Battalions were part of this long campaign, fighting with the 10th Irish and 36th Ulster Divisions.  Friends were lost, memories were ingrained but often rarely talked about and families throughout Ireland paid the price of war!

Take the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of one of the most fascinating areas of the Geopark on the Cuilcagh Mountain on a Guided Bus and Walking Tour this Saturday 16th July.  Visitors will be transported by bus to the newly developed Cavan Burren Park where you will learn more about this fascinating archaeological landscape.  Then, it’s back on the bus to Cuilcagh Mountain Park, where you will have an opportunity to explore the lower reaches of the mountain and find out more about this unique setting.  Light refreshments will be provided. On July 13th, 14th and 15th, members of the public will be treated to Clipper 2015-16 Race Fleet: Open Boat Tours.  People will be able to discover what life as an ocean racer is like on a personal yacht tour conducted by crew members who have competed in the unique race.  On Saturday July 16 the spectacular finale, The Voyage of Sunniva – Night of the Two Moons, which takes place at Queen’s Quay, brings together land, water, aerial performance, light, music and fireworks in a world class spectacle that will be remembered forever by all who see it.  The closing day of the festival, Sunday July 17, will feature the Clipper Race Yachts Parade of Sail.  This will be a very special event as the city bids an emotional farewell to the Clipper race yachts as they depart for their next official race start at Greencastle, Co Donegal.

The Castle Ward Book Fair takes place this Saturday and Sunday 11th and 12th June.  Browse through the thousands of quality used books for a great bargain. From rare and vintage classics to children’s corner there are books on everything to be found. A book lovers dream!  Get inspired with readings from the Castle Ward creative writing group (Sunday only), solve the clues on the family trail and join the picnic. Why not come dressed up as your favourite storybook character?   The magnificent mansion is open along with the gift shop and tea room. With the Woodland and Adventure playgrounds and crafts in the barn, it will be a great day out for all of the family.

Lurgan Park Funday is a free family Fun Day hosted by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council this Saturday 11th June. There will be a host of child friendly activities will be provided from 12 -3 pm and the park will be the setting for an open-air concert and fireworks display at 7:30 pm. This is the second largest public park in Ireland and features a state of the art play park with additional water features, zip line and a large group swing. There is also a large pond where children and adults can watch the swans and other visiting birds and wildlife.

Once again people in Arney have come together to demonstrate the incredible community spirit in the Cleenish area, but this time they are doing it through flowers at the Arney Flower Festival this weekend. The festival will be open to the public on Friday 10th June from 12 noon – 9.00pm and Saturday 11th June from 10.00am to 9.00pm and again on Sunday 12th rom 11.00am to 5.00pm when it will conclude with a Festival concert featuring the best of local talent in Cleenish Millennium Hall Arney at 7.00pm. Funds raised through the festival will go the upkeep of the Hall.

The Alley Theatre present Handbag Positive this Sunday 12th June. Attracta and Nora were the best of friends when they were teenagers.  They shared everything from their Bay City Roller trousers to boyfriends.  In the dark days of the late 1970s they sang shangalang and they ran with the gang.  Bomb scares at their school weren’t scary at all, they got a day off and that was ok by them.  They drift apart as people do until fate reunites them in their middle age.

Bangor’s popular maritime event returns this weekend for 2016 featuring a tented village, food fayre, live entertainment and children’s activities.  Sailing into Bangor for the event is the impressive tall ship “The Mercedes” which will be moored alongside The Eisenhower Pier and open to the public for both days of the festival.  If you fancy sailing the high seas on the spectacular “Mercedes” there are opportunities available for hour-long sailings on both the morning and evening of June 4 & 5. There will be morning sailings at 9am on both days (£15), then Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 8pm (£20).

Armagh

Prepare to be amazed, dazzled & bewildered by Cahoots NI’s mind-blowing production Danny Carmo’s Mathematical Mysteries this Saturday at the Market Place Theatre. A spectacular show where Maths, Theatre and Digital Technology collide to create a fun and interactive performance proving that understanding maths can be fun!  Meet Danny Carmo, it’s not so long ago that he thought school and, in particular, maths wasn’t for him. He was more interested in dreaming about a future on the stage & perhaps the big screen – all he ever wanted to be was a famous magician!!! But when he knuckled down to learn all the tricks of the trade he realised that Maths was not only essential…but was the SECRET to a whole load of magic!

Fermanagh

The Old Tyme Market Lisnaskea takes place this Friday 3rd June at the Corn Market Yard. A day when Lisnaskea primary school pupils experience the fun of the market day and sell the wares they bring. Refreshments provided for children. Profits from children’s stalls are in aid of their own school.  Children learn about history; old ways and crafts but also learn the importance of buying and selling, with emphasis on presentation, quality and pleasing the customer, as well as supply and demand.  Grandparents enjoy the event too and often contribute produce and recount memories of attending markets along ago.

Tyrone

Join the Ulster American Folk Park this Saturday and Sunday for Old, New, Borrowed, Blue, celebrating weddings on both sides of the Atlantic on the one day! The 19th century rural Ulster wedding takes visitors on a journey from courting, to the church and then on to the wedding feast. On the ‘New World’ side of the museum you will join the 18th century wedding party in pioneer America, complete with old-time music and dancing in the Pennsylvania Barn.

Guide Dogs NI are hosting a Volunteer Taster Session on Saturday 4th June at the Limavady Arts and Cultural Centre.  Ever found yourself wondering whether it’s appropriate to offer help to a blind or partially sighted person, and how you should approach them?  Do you know how to behave around a guide dog?  Learn some sighted guiding techniques, meet some of the friendly team from Guide Dogs NI and learn more about how our My Guide service helps visually impaired people to get out and about independently. The Rathlin Sound Maritime Festival continues this week, into the weekend. The festival is centred on Rathlin Sound, the body of water that lies between Rathlin Island and Ballycastle. From the adrenaline rush of the Sailing Regatta and races as well as exciting and informative talks and tours, exhibitions and demonstrations, fun competitions, laid back lunches, friendly giants, curraghs and Viking ships, there is plenty to choose from including fantastic family friendly events. There is a fun filled and packed programme of events at the 5th annual celebration of our rich maritime heritage with an emphasis on locally produced food for this the Year of Food In Northern Ireland.

See Aladdin at the Crescent Arts Centre this Friday 3rd June.  This colourful tale from the Arabian Nights is set in the Middle East: a place of mystery, enchantment and strange, mythical creatures. This Large scale contemporary Shadow Puppet theatre tells of a poor street boy who falls hopelessly in love with a Royal Princess.

PIPS Newry and Mourne are taking part in the NI Mental Health Arts & Film Festival to raise awareness of mental illness. The 82 members of the  City of Belfast Youth Orchestra (CBYO) conducted by Paul McBride return to the Ulster Hall on Saturday 14th May for their Summer Concert.  Programme will include Marquez – Conga Del Fuego, Bruch Romanze for Viola and Orchestra (Soloist Matthew Kendell) and Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4. The Orchestra will also be joined by the City of Belfast School of Music’s Divertimenti String Group and A-Freek-A to showcase some of the best young musicians the City has to offer!

Thirteen of Jane Austen’s heroines come to life in “Austen’s Women” this Friday at the Theatre at the Mill, Newtownabbey, boldly revisiting of some of literature’s most celebrated works. Using only Austen’s words, Rebecca Vaughan becomes Emma Woodhouse, Lizzy Bennet, Mrs Norris, Miss Bates and nine other beautifully observed women in critical moments from the major novels (including Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Emma) and lesser known or unfinished works.
