MAC BELFAST PRESENTS THEATRE LOVETT’S A FEAST OF BONES

Written by Frances Kay, Directed by Muireann Ahern

A deliciously dark musical fable, for children and adults starring renowned Irish vocalist Lisa Lambe is taking place at the MAC from 29-30 October 2016.

Recently returned from a whirlwind tour of USA, Theatre Lovett, one of Ireland’s leading companies making work for all ages, bring their classic slapstick, song and theatricality to audiences young and old. Touring again after sell out shows at Dublin Theatre Festival in 2013, A Feast of Bones is a deliciously dark retelling of Henny Penny, a classic fable of survival. Featuring live music, an original score, and some dazzling musical talent; Lisa Lambe, Martin Brunsden (Hot House Flowers).

Under the twinkling lights of a charming French café a waitress sits polishing her knives. Set in the shadows of the First World War, one cunning customer is about to be served a meal he will never forget. Let Lisa Lambe’s stunning voice thrill you… Louis Lovett’s comical bluster amuse you… and let the joyous music of Nico Brown and Martin Brunsden (Hot House Flowers) set your hearts alight. A vastly entertaining musical fable filled with song, fun and fright. You’ll be humming along long after you leave the theatre.

FRIGHTENINGLY GOOD ENTERTAINMENT AT THE MARKET PLACE

There’s a packed programme of events at The Market Place Theatre in Armagh this weekend to kick your Halloween celebrations off with a bang.

You can’t see the Bee Gees anymore, but you can see ‘Nights On Broadway’ and still experience a concert of the incredible music written by the brothers Gibb. ‘Nights On Broadway’ presents a tribute to the Bee Gees through their catalogue of hits over four decades from the 60s to the 90s. The full live band blend the classic hits, acoustic medleys and dance floor fillers which define the show. This is a totally live concert experience which prides itself on musical, in particular vocal, authenticity, while the accompanying costume changes compliment the show to give audiences a truly original feeling. ‘Nights On Broadway’ will be staged on Thursday 27 October. Tickets are priced £16.

Isosceles Theatre Company returns for two nights of innovative drama with ‘Beckett’s Last Act’ on Friday 28th and ‘Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde’ on Saturday 29th. Tickets for each show are £13.50 and £11.50 (concession).

‘Beckett’s Last Act’ tells the true story of Mora Grey who worked alongside Samuel Beckett at the Royal Court Theatre in the 1970’s – what was he really like? We find out as we see Beckett in a theatre setting, deeply troubled by the latest production of his acclaimed play ‘Krapp’s Last Tape’ with Albert Finney in the title role. It is the day of the first performance. Beckett’s looming presence disturbs the Director, the Designer, the Wardrobe Mistress, the Flyman and the Actor, a disturbance which leads to unexpected and tragic events.

‘Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde’ is a classic dark tale just in time for Halloween. Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic story has enthralled and fascinated the world for more than a hundred years. An experiment to separate virtue from wickedness in his own nature results in the respectable Dr. Jekyll releasing the demon within: a malevolent force which will eventually possess him body and soul.

Tickets for all performances can be booked through the Box Office on [028] 3752 1821, or online at www.marketplacearmagh.com And to keep up-to-date with the latest news at the Market Place Theatre, you can follow us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/marketplacearmagh) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/mptarmagh) where you will find all the latest information, special offers and video previews.

Stewartstown Pantomime 2017 “Willy Wonka: The Pantomime” Cast Announced

The perfect ingredients for the Pantomime 2017 season at the Burnavon, Cookstown have been brought together, as the cast has been chosen for Stewartstown Amateur Dramatic Society’s annual family pantomime, which this year will be ‘Willy Wonka: The Pantomime”.

PIC Caption: Artistic Director, Brian Morgan, introduces the new cast of Willy Wonka: The Pantomime to their script as preparations start for the January 2017 run at the Burnavon, Cookstown.

There was great excitement at McNeece Hall in Stewartstown, as those who had auditioned, friends and family gathered to hear who had gained a coveted place in the cast. Pat Smith, Chairperson of the Society welcomed everyone, and spoke of the opportunities that arise from being involved in a cross community organisation that delivers such a tremendous event to the people of the Mid Ulster area. He went on to thank everyone who had attended the recent auditions and said that it had been a particularly hard choice this year as so many people had come forward.

Brian Morgan, Director, then broke the suspense by announcing the following successful actors and actresses for the cast: Willy Wonka: Michael Bradley from Magherafelt; Charlie Bucket: Jack Carberry from Brackaville; Augustus Gloopus : Oisin Quinn from Moneymore; Veruca Salty : Hannah Ferguson from Dungannon (who took the lead as Dorothy in last year’s ‘The Wizard of Oz); Violet Broomhandler : Emily Gribbin from Dungannon.  (who was Snow White in the 2014 panto), with another star turn from Grandma Josephine  (the panto dame), as always played by John Glendinning.

The parents of the children going into the chocolate factory include three newcomers Eileen Devlin, James Parks and Niall Herron alongside Andrea Morgan who joined the society in 2015.

Michael Bradley, who will play the principal male role as Willy Wonka, said ‘I’m delighted that I’ve got the part of Willy Wonka, one of the most recognisable characters in literature, film and on stage. We have great plans for this year’s show to make it bigger and better than last year, so it’s very exciting and I’m looking forward to getting started at rehearsals.’

Jack Carberry said ‘I’m apprehensive, excited and delighted all at the same time. Stewartstown Amateur Dramatic Society is a very special community organisation to be involved in and I feel it’s a fantastic experience for me and indeed all those involved.’

Rehearsals have now started in earnest with a full timetable in the run-up to January. Over the past 17 years, Stewartstown Amateur Dramatic Society have provided a cross-community project that each year has got bigger and better and this year’s show promises to have plenty of extra special effects to offer the audience. Friday shows are at 8pm, and Saturday shows are a matinee at 2.30pm, and an evening performance at 8pm.

Underground Style Goes Overground At Belfast’s First Alternative Fashion Week

Founder of Equal Fashion Magazine takes new styles to the catwalk

A SERIES of creative fashion shows are set to take Northern Ireland by storm as Belfast’s inaugural Alternative Fashion Week launches.

Alternative model Heather McLean hits the streets of Belfast flyering for the forthcoming Belfast Alternative Fashion Week running from November 15 to December 4. For more information log onto www.equalfashionmagazine.com #BAFW16

As the brainchild of Belfast photographer Shelley Rodgers the four main shows will cover everything from fairytale, gore and body art to older, mobility impaired and LGBT models.

“Belfast Alternative Fashion Week is an exciting collection of unique and visually spectacular creative catwalk shows.  It’s a first for Northern Ireland and we’re bringing together some of the country’s leading creative industries whilst inviting the best from across Europe to contribute to each show. We’re telling people to expect the unexpected” said Shelley.

For Shelley launching Belfast Alternative Fashion Week in November is a dream come true, as a creative photographer she has a passion to bring alternative looks and styles to the fore.

She said: “In Northern Ireland I feel there’s a misconception that in order to exist in the fashion industry you have to conform to a particular look, be a certain size or fall within a designated age range.

“Almost by accident we seem to conform to one small idea of what the fashion and beauty industry wants or entails and that’s just not true.

“You only have to walk down the street to see the creativity of our fashion industry and see how style and trend is translated by everyone you meet.”

While the show is rooted firmly in Belfast it will have an international flavour with fashion designers, models and photographers as well as makeup artists and musicians from London, Amsterdam, America and throughout Europe.

Events will be staged in the Elmwood Hall, the Europa Hotel, Titanic Suite all culminating in a grand finale in the Whitla Hall with music and an exhibition of the best of the events.
