10 Things to do Next Week in NI

The Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) has put together a list of 10 exciting things to do in Northern Ireland over the next week (June 9-15).

  • Belfast Book Festival 2014, various venues, Belfast, June 9-15. The festival offers something for all book worms from award-winning authors, international stars, poetry slams and a family day to keep people of all ages entertained.

  • Island Music Club, Lisburn, Co. Antrim June 13.   • A Fort, A Fight, A Forest and Fifty Tress Species, Downhill Forest, Castlerock, Co. Londonderry, June 11. Take a guided evening walk and explore Downhill Forest, a small mixed woodland originally part of the estate of the Bishop of Derry and home to one of the oldest and widest Sitka spruce tree.    

  • Fermanagh Fleadh 2014, various venues, Co. Fermanagh, June 13-15. The Fermanagh Fleadh will offer a packed programme of events for everyone with competitions, open music sessions, outdoor youth sessions, live entertainment and singing sessions.

  • Open Farm Weekend, throughout Northern Ireland, June 14-15. The annual Open Farm Weekend returns to encourage families to get out and enjoy an educational day by visiting a real working farm and to learn about where food comes from.
  • UK Pipe Band Championships, Stormont Estate, Belfast, June 14. Stormont Estate hosts the UK Pipe Band Championships allowing you to see and hear an impressive display of pipes, drums and Highland dancing.

  • Cultra Hill Climb 2014, Ulster Folk & Transport Museum, Cultra, Co. Down, June 14. The museum’s grounds will transform into a unique motorsport venue with Minis, Mods and Monsters taking over the race day this year with a range of historic cars competing on the demanding course.

  • Armagh County Agricultural Show, Gosford Forest Park, Markethill, Co. Armagh, June 14. The one-day show is held in the beautiful surroundings of Gosford Forest Park with livestock classes, equestrian classes, home industries, fine foods and much more.

  • Meet the Men of the ‘Battle of Benburb’, Benburb Castle, Co Tyrone, June 15. Enjoy a day at the castle with the chance to try on the armour, heft a pike and watch demonstrations of musket fire, also speak to staff involved in the conservation of the castle and find out more about the skills required to do this job.

  • Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Mount Stewart, Newtownards, Co. Down, June 15. The popular Father’s Day event returns to celebrate both vintage and modern classic vehicles offering a real treat for Father’s and all the family.
