  1. The Ark Open Fam, Newtownards, County Down, from 7 January – 15 February 2023, open weekends only. Check website for more information and opening times. The Ark Open Farm is a fantastic family day out and is unique, being the only one of its kind specialising in animals that are no longer seen in Northern Ireland’s fields. Set in forty acres of unspoiled countryside, it is home to approximately two hundred animals of all kinds which you can get up close to and interact with the help of the friendly staff.

Today, you can explore its 150-year history of tensions, imprisonment and executions. Learn first-hand about the gaol’s colourful past and gain a memorable insight into its daily routine.
  4. Derry Girls Afternoon Tea, Derry~Londonderry. Check website for opening times and dates. Treat yourself to a spot of Afternoon Tea at the Everglades Hotel in Derry~Londonderry. Inspired by the hit TV show, enjoy sandwiches, freshly baked scones, breads and a pastry assortment but with a Derry Girls twist that includes a sausage roll bap, fresh cream horns, cone of chips and a delicious cocktail. Must be booked 24 hours in advance.

  7. Hill of The O’Neill & Ranfurly House, Dungannon, County Tyrone. Check website for opening times and dates. The O’Neill was the head of one of Ireland’s most powerful dynasties. This was a family which could number two high kings among its members – and claimed descent from the legendary Niall of the nine hostages. The hill you can stand on today was the centre of the family’s power base and you can enjoy breath-taking panoramic views from their glass observation tower today.
  8. Armagh Observatory and Planetarium, County Armagh. Check website for opening times and dates. The sky’s the limit at the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium. A leading centre for astronomical research, it’s also a star attraction for kids. In the Planetarium’s Digital Full Dome Theatre, you can sit back, relax and experience the wonders of our universe. Take a tour of the night sky and discover how scientific research has impacted the field of astronomy.
  9. The Boatyard Distillery, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh. Check website for opening times and dates. Visit the Boatyard Distillery on the banks of Lough Erne to see how they produce the finest spirits using the highest quality botanicals and ingredients. Come and meet the team, see their skills in action and discover the secret behind the famous ‘Érainn’ the distillery’s very own Copper still.
  10. The Out to Lunch Festival, Belfast, 7 – 29 January. The Out to Lunch Festival is Belfast’s annual winter celebration of music, theatre, comedy and film in the city’s historic Cathedral Quarter. Lunchtime shows come served with a hot lunch for £10 and festival events regularly sell out so early booking is advised.
