  1. Armagh Georgian Festival, Co. Armagh, 23-26 November. Armagh’s much loved Georgian Festival returns to mark the beginning of the festive season. The festival includes the return of the Georgian Banquet, where guests can travel through the mists of time to Georgian Armagh. Festive market stalls hosted by traders in traditional costume will offer high quality gifts and locally produced food and drink. The children’s Christmas market will also return as well as horse and carriage rides, live music, talks and tours. As darkness falls, the dramatic light show will burst to life, illuminating the backdrop of the Georgian Market House and creating a festive atmosphere with contemporary and seasonal music.
  2. Foyle Film Festival, Derry~Londonderry, 17 – 26 November. Foyle Film Festival is an annual celebration of independent films, acclaimed feature length movies, documentaries and short films. Films include the Northern Ireland premiere of Walk With Me, Battle of the Sexes and family favourite, Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, along with many others.   3. Hugo Duncan and Friends at The Portico, Portaferry, Co.Down, 24 November. A night of great entertainment as the ever-popular Hugo Duncan sings in the unique surroundings of The Portico in Portaferry. Hugo will be joined by Philomena Begley, Stephen Smyth, Boxcar Brian and Country Harmony. An evening not to be missed by fans of the Strabane man.
  4. 2017 Friendship Four, SSE Arena, Belfast. 24-25 November. The Friendship Four hockey tournament is the first and only NCAA Division hockey tournament outside of the United States of America. The tournament includes four different NCAA Division Universities from America travelling to Belfast for six days to compete in a four game tournament over two days.  The 2017 competing Universities have been confirmed as Clarkson University, RPI, Providence University and the University of Maine.
  5. 20th anniversary of Titanic the movie, Titanic Belfast, 19 November – 19 December. 20 years ago the blockbuster film, telling the story of the luxury liner’s fateful maiden voyage through the love story of passengers Jack and Rose, premiered on screens and became one of the top grossing films of all time. To mark the occasion, Titanic Belfast which has been described by Titanic movie director, James Cameron, as ‘magnificent and dramatic’, is hosting a blockbuster line-up of events including a Titanic Movie Drive In, Afternoon Tea and Movie Experience and a Movie Magic Month.
  6. Festive Fair, Derry~Londonderry, 25 November. Creggan Country Park will be transformed into a festive hub of activity with local arts and crafts businesses promoting their Christmas delights. Creggan Country Kitchen will host a festive BBQ on the day. Mulled wine and hot chocolate will be available to purchase throughout the day.
  7. Cookstown Christmas Lights Switch On, Co. Tyrone, 24 November. Christmas in Cookstown gets officially underway this year with the big switch on of the town’s Christmas lights at 5.30pm. Watch the streets come alive, in what has to be the most spectacular display in the country, that will make you know for sure that Christmas is really just around the corner. Get into the festive season, wrap up warm and come join in the fun.
  8. Sleeping Beauty, Lisburn, Co. Antrim, 23-24 November. Doogan Dance Academy has worked together with the Russian ballet in a project called Dancing Without Borders to produce their version of Sleeping Beauty. This is a great privilege for the dancers to work with such elite and professional dancers in order to create a show that is not to be missed for the whole family in the run up to Christmas.
  9. Northern Ireland Farm Toy & Model Show, Portrush, Co. Antrim, 24 November. Magherabuoy House Hotel will host this show with plenty of ideas for Christmas presents for kids and adults alike. On display will be tractors, trailers, tankers, manure spreaders, forage harvesters, animals, pedal tractors, wooden farmyards, DVDs, clothing, crafts, cars, lorries and much more.
  10. An Evening with Bette Midler, Downpatrick, Co. Down, 20 November. She’s feisty, she’s naughty and she’s got a voice full to the brim with character and beauty. An Evening with Bette Midler is a wicked ride through the life of one of the world’s greatest divas. Featuring such smash hits as ‘From a Distance’ and ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’, this new music piece of theatre received standing ovations when it premiered at The Playhouse earlier this year.

  8. Titanic Taster Photography Tour, Belfast, 11 November. Become a Titanic inspired photographer for the day and learn lots of top tips and techniques, all while exploring Titanic Quarter’s Maritime Heritage. On this interactive tour you will be transported around the quarter on the Wee Tram.   1. Derry Halloween, Derry~Londonderry, 28-31 October. On the 31st anniversary party supernatural beings and the souls of the dead flood into the City of Bones. Highlights include the fantastic ‘Awakening the Walls’ event – light, fire, sculpture, music and performers rouse the walls awake in a supernatural animation trail on and around the city walls, the largest Halloween street carnival parade and costume party in Europe and the marvellous firework finale over the River Foyle.
  2. Museum of the Moon, The Guildhall, Derry~Londonderry, 28-31 October. Experience Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon, an internationally touring work featuring detailed Nasa imagery of the Moon’s surface and atmospheric soundtrack created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer, Dan Jones. As part of the festival there are special ticketed events under the moon including Samhain sessions, little monsters shows, a spooktacular disco and the Mayor’s tea dance.
  3. Halloween Happenings, Ballycastle, 31 October. Enjoy the annual Halloween Parade and the spectacular fireworks display at the harbour. A fancy dress competition will assemble at Dalriada Hospital at 6.45pm making its way through the town to the seafront. Floats, skeletons, creepy characters, live music and fire poi will all add to this annual parade.
  4. Halloween Crafts & Games Club, Armagh, 30-31 October, 10am-4pm. Let children unleash their inner artist creating amazing Halloween crafts at the excellent Halloween Craft & Games Club at the Palace Stables. For 5-12-year-olds, with a fully supervised lunch.

  8. Weeping Window by Paul Cummins, Belfast, October – 3 December.   9. Joel Mawhinney – Phobia, Coleraine, 30 October. Joel Mawhinney is not like other teenagers. Forsaking higher education, Joel has chosen the way of the mentalist. In this Halloween Special, Joel will attempt to break inside your mindset and alter the way you see your biggest fears. Expected the unexpected, the bizarre and the miraculous, in this twisted, yet hilarious experience at the Riverside Theatre.
  10. John O’Connor Writing School and Literary Arts Festival, Armagh, 3-5 November. This innovative festival honours the broad literary and cultural heritage of Armagh. Supporting the development of new writers, students can specialise in a genre from a choice of five taught by renowned tutors with talks by industry specialists. Carlisle Memorial Church plays host to excellence in this years’ Belfast International Arts Festival, as the high Victorian neo-Gothic building will display a significant exhibition by one of Ireland’s leading international artists, Hughie O’Donoghue. This exhibition of paintings, painted constructions and sculpture draw on the artist’s own experience and connections, people and places that he knew or knew of.
  4. City of Derry International Choral Festival, 25-29 October. This choral music festival brings more than 60 choirs to Derry~Londonderry, hailing from countries across Europe.  A  celebration of all that choral singing has to offer, activities include concerts by world-renowned vocal groups, competitions for choirs, workshops and educational events for singers and conductors, community concerts and choral trails in landmark locations across Derry~Londonderry and the surrounding area.
  5. Phantom Flyer Ghost Train, Downpatrick, 28-31 October. There is something strange coming to the Downpatrick & County Down Railway this Halloween. If you are brave enough to visit a graveyard on Halloween, join Merlin the Great Wizard on his haunted grotto train.   6. Purple Turnip Festival, Lisburn, 28 October. Market Square welcomes the Purple Turnip Festival for its ninth year. The festival includes the terrific purple turnip hunt, free craft activities, an interactive light floor and the opportunity to get up close and personal with a wide range of exotic animals.   7. Sleepy Hollow, Strabane, 26-28 October. The Arts Academy present to The Alley Arts & Conference Centre this year’s pantomime for a spooktacular Halloween. A Reader in Art History in the Manchester School of Art and originally from Belfast, Fionna’s research interests are contemporary and twentieth century Irish visual culture, issues of nation, memory and identity and gender conformity in twentieth century modernism.
  5. Waterways Ireland Erne Pike Fishing Classic, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, 13-15 October. This three-day event includes a number of fishing competitions and an awards ceremony.   8. Young Blood, Seamus Heaney HomePlace, Bellaghy, Co. Londonderry, 15 October. Irish writing is in rude health thanks to the arrival of a new generation of young writers, and HomePlace is delighted to welcome three exciting debut authors, who are taking the literary world by storm with their fresh and irreverent take on contemporary life in Ireland today. Featuring Ciaran McMenamin, Sally Rooney and June Caldwell.
  9. The Great North Links Challenge, Portrush, Co. Antrim, 11-13 October. There’s no better way to head into the winter golf season than to take part in this exciting event at three fantastic courses on the Causeway Coast. Teams of four compete over the three days for team and individual prizes whilst battling against the weather.
  10. Altan, The Alley Theatre, Strabane, 14 October. Over the past 30 years Altan have moved audiences from Donegal to Tokyo with their heart-warming, dynamic live performances and with their exquisitely produced, award-winning recordings of touching old Irish songs to hard-hitting jigs. Come along and hear the beautiful songs of their current album, The Widening Gyre, as well as old favourites and new tunes.

  1. Portrush Beer and Food Festival, Portrush, Co. Antrim, 6-8 October. The very best of local produce and drink will be on the menu when Portrush Beer and Food Festival returns. Set to be a weekend to remember, the festival boasts an extended programme and will be held in Portrush Town Hall.
  2. Irish Hare Photography, Craigavon, Co. Armagh, 7 October.  The meadows at Portmore Lough nature reserve near Aghalee are home to a thriving population of around 40 Irish hares. This autumn, the Portmore RSPB NI team are granting access to a part of the reserve not usually open to the public to allow keen photographers to capture these marvellous mammals on camera.
  3. Red Bull Fox Hunt, Co. Down, 7-8 October. A cycling competition where 450 riders will play the part of “the hounds” as they try to outride three Foxes at Rostrevor’s Mountain Bike trail. This year’s foxes are previous Downhill Mountain Bike World Champion Gee Atherton, current UCI Downhill World Champion Loïc Bruni and 3-time Red Bull Foxhunt winner Colin Ross.
  4. FEAR – Fermanagh Endurance Adventure Race, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, 7 October. What better way to spend a Saturday morning than getting up close and personal with Fermanagh’s rugged and wild terrain.   5. The Slow Food Festival, Derry~Londonderry, 7-8 October. Slow Food is a global, grassroots organisation that promotes true enjoyment of good food with the commitment to community and the environment. This free, family-friendly event will incorporate a slow food harvest fayre, tastings, demonstrations, family fun zone and more. The best of local food will be on the menu in Guildhall Square.
  6. Wire Sculpture Workshop, Omagh, Co. Tyrone, 7 October. Innovative wire sculptors invent their own new forms of wire sculpture as they explore. Learn techniques for constructing basic 3D wire frameworks using simple pencil drawings as a guide. These can then be developed using a variety of wires to make interesting sculptures. Ticket cost £35 and includes lunch.
  7. The Farmer’s Bash, Belfast, 6 October. Grab your cowboy boots as UK and Ireland’s biggest indoor country music dance event comes to Belfast. Acts include country music stars Derek Ryan, Lisa McHugh and Robert Mizzell, as well as the globally popular Grassmen. Tickets start from £28.
  8. Belfast Comedy Festival, Belfast, 2-8 October.  Taking place in venues across the city Belfast Comedy Festival celebrates its sixth year. The festival is not limited to stand-up comedy and aims to entertain, challenge, and inspire through a diverse programme of theatre, workshops, seminars, circus, film, quizzes, competitions, and includes events for children.
  9. Seamus Heaney: LifeCycle Tour, Bellaghy, Derry~Londonderry, 7 October. This guided coach tour of the landscape made famous by Seamus Heaney’s poetry is led by local man, accredited tour guide and Heaney specialist, Eugene Kielt.   10. The Brandon McPhee Show, Lisburn, Co. Antrim, 5 October.   3. The Home Key, Seamus Heaney HomePlace, Derry~Londonderry, 29 September. A special performance from Lisa Hannigan, who is celebrated for her unmistakeable vocals. Her latest album, At Swim, which takes a turn into darker more reflective territory, features an inspired acapella version of Seamus Heaney’s poem ‘Anahorish’ taken from his early collections.
  4. Guitar Night – Thomas Leeb, Belfast, 28 September. The Crescent Arts Centre is delighted to present the first ever Belfast Guitar Night, which will feature the amazing Thomas Leeb. Leeb is a skilled guitar player, with his first solo performance at aged fifteen, he is now a frequent performer at concerts and festivals in Asia, America and Europe.
  5. Murder Mystery Evenings, Cookstown, 29-30 September. Lissan House sets the scene in 1943, when war rages abroad but at the ‘Big House’ the enemy lurks within. There has been a murder but who dunnit? What has ice-cream got to do with it? Fatal attraction, fun and forensics. Come dressed to kill in 1940’s style service or civvies.   6. Mister Maker, Belfast, 30 September–1 October. CBeebies’ Mister Maker is coming back to the Grand Opera House by popular demand in his smash hit live theatre tour.   7. The Unholy Gospel Band, Downpatrick, 29 September. The Unholy Gospel Band is a first in Northern Ireland with its authentic American gospel music delivered live and straight from the soul. Featuring songs by Mahalia Jackson, The Staple Singers, James Brown and many more. See them perform at the Down Arts Centre from 8pm.
  8. The Australian Pink Floyd Show, Belfast, 26 September. The Australian Pink Floyd Show returns to the SSE Arena with a new set of Pink Floyd songs – ‘The Best Side of the Moon’ incorporating a full performance of what many would call the most iconic rock album of all time.
  9. Country comes to the Forum, Derry~Londonderry, 26 September. Millennium Forum Theatre and Conference Centre hosts ‘Country Comes to the Forum.’ A night of entertainment with great country acts, fun and laughter with all proceeds going to a local charity.
  10. Strabane Market, Strabane, 29 September. On the last Friday of every month from April – December, the Alley Theatre will welcome the very best of artisan traders, offering visitors a friendly shopping experience with a wide selection of speciality foods and handmade crafted products.
