  2. Electric Escape, Belcoo, County Fermanagh, throughout October. Saddle-up at Corralea Adventure Centre and get off the beaten track on a top your top-of-the range electric mountain bike. This guided exploration of the unspoilt wilderness of West Fermanagh will include crossing old bog roads and forest tracks, discovering hidden megalithic tombs as you go. The festival will include storytellers and musicians offering a varied programme of events. There will be craft sessions, walks, performances, and sessions. There’s something for everyone at a range of locations and venues from Ballycastle to Whitehead.
  2. Pumpkin Picking at the Priory, Benburb, County Tyrone, 20-22 October. Get the whole family ready for Halloween at this pumpkin picking event. It’s the first of its kind for the Priory and the family ticket includes face painting and fun activities for children, with coffee and tea for the adults. A great day out for all. This Linen Hall Library Travelling Exhibition reflects on the conflicting identities, protests and warfare leading into the period of the ‘Troubles’.   4. Atlantic Sessions, Portrush and Portstewart, County Antrim, 16-22 October. Showcasing original music from traditional to contemporary, electric to acoustic. Now firmly a permanent feature on the cultural calendar creating an energetic, vibrant atmosphere in the pubs, hotels, and coffee shops. There’ll be more than 30 live original music gigs to choose from.
  1. City of Derry International Choir Festival, Derry~Londonderry, County Londonderry, 18-22 October. This festival burst onto the scene ten years ago as part of the City of Culture celebrations. To celebrate that milestone there’s a special line-up of guest artists and concerts. The choral ensemble, The Sixteen will return to the Guildhall as part of the event.

It marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the darker half of the year.   4. Murder Mystery- Diamond Eye, Davagh Forest, County Tyrone, 20 October. As the moonlight wanes and darkness grows join this murder mystery themed at OM Dark Sky Park & Observatory. Play Dead will enact scenes and you must decipher the clues and turn detective. Evening includes a light buffet and refreshments.

  1. Castlewellan Forest Park – Annesley Garden Walk, Castlewellan, County Down, throughout October. Why not enjoy the autumn leaf change at this beautiful arboretum? This trail, which is just over two miles, is a lovely day out passing lakes and ponds within the forest. There are some steep bits along way, but it is well worth the effort!
  2. Armagh Robinson Library, Armagh, County Armagh, throughout October. This isn’t just about stepping into an 18-century library, it’s the oldest in Northern Ireland, founded in 1771. Among its treasures are Jonathan Swifts’ personal copy of Gulliver travels, complete with his own handwritten corrections. His publisher made changes to avoid legal action! He was a great admirer of the orchard county and stayed at what is now Gosford Forest Park, a place that inspired many of his poems.
  3. Belleek Pottery Visitor Centre, Belleek, County Fermanagh, 29 September. This is one of Northern Ireland’s oldest attractions, with visitors coming to discover the secrets of Irish Craftmanship since 1857. There are a range of pottery tours where you can see the 16 steps of how this world-famous product is created.  You can see how the moulding, flowering, painting, and basket weaving is done. Around 25,000 light-bellied brent geese make the gruelling 3,000-mile journey from Arctic Canada to Strangford Lough. There’ll be family fun all weekend with a wildlife expert on hand, in the hide talks, free photography and craft workshops.

Located in the heart of the Clogher Valley with trails catering for all ages and abilities this is a fun day out or all the family. Why not give the Pump Track a go? This short criss-crossing circular trail of rollers and berms where you use your weight distribution on the bike to flow over the features without having to use your pedals. It will include a new section in East Belfast with the race using more of the greenway before heading into Victoria Park rather than travelling along the Sydenham bypass. The exhibition, held at the Market Place Gallery, will look at the diverse approaches towards values, material possibility, sustainability, and social connections, through the art of jewellery and adornment.
  8. Blessingbourne Mountain Bike Trails and Pump Track, Fivemiletown, County Tyrone, 10 September. Lying in the heart of the Clogher Valley the estate offers trails for all ages and abilities. Why not give the Pump Track a go? This short criss-crossing circular trail of rollers and berms where you use your weight distribution on the bike to flow over the features without having to use your pedals! Created by the world class the course designer for the Beijing Olympics these trails offer a fun day out. Bike hire is available via the website.
  9. Cocktail Hour Cruise, Killadeas, County Fermanagh, 13 September. Welcome aboard the luxury cruiser The Lady of The Lake for an evening of relaxation. Just as the light begins to soften, you’ll be treated to a delicious prosecco cocktail and a selection of locally sourced canapes as you take in the breathtaking beauty of Lough Erne on a 90-minute cruise. An experienced captain will tell you more about some of the historic landmarks that can be admired from the lake, with plenty of opportunities for photographs along the way!
  10. World Sheepdog Trials, Dromore, County Down, 13-16 September. More than two hundred competitors from over thirty countries will be gathered to see who’s top dog at the Gill Hall Estate.   6. Crom Estate, Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh, 9 September. Roam the acres of parkland and native broadleaved woodland on the shores of Upper Lough Erne. Explore the ruins of the old castle and see Crom’s famous ancient yew trees for yourself. The area is an important conservation site and makes a great day out.
  7. Art and Soul, Holywood, County Down, 4-10 September. The lush grounds of the Culloden Estate and Spa on the shores of Belfast Lough will be transformed inside and out by 250 artworks by some of the biggest names in international and Irish art. Among those featured are Patrick O’Reilly, Ian Pollock, Giacinto Bosco and Salvador Dali. The exhibition is free and guided tours are available three times daily.
  8. Belfast Maritime Festival, Belfast, County Antrim, 9-10 September. Watch the Titanic Quarter come alive with free entertainment for all to enjoy with live music, interactive demonstrations, street performers and a specially created beach play area. This event, a legacy from the Tall Ships, will host its first Science Street, celebrating all things marine. There’ll be workshops with sustainability as a central theme and underwater robots. Forwater’ of a different kind there’ll be discounted tickets to the Titanic Distillery, food vendors and a Belfast Bazaar showcasing local makers.
  9. Walk & Talk – Omagh’s Built Heritage, Omagh, County Tyrone, 10 September. Join Vincent Brogan on a guided walk around Omagh town, where you will get to see, hear and learn about key aspects of town’s-built heritage. Part of the European Open Doors Day Festival.

  2. Eats and Beats Festival, Newcastle, County Down, 2-3 September. This festival is a must for foodies and music lovers. A celebration of delicious local cuisine alongside great live performances by some of the hottest acts around. Eats and Beats draws thousands of visitors each year who come to sample the incredible food and soak up the festive atmosphere all set against the fabulous backdrop of the majestic Mournes.
  3. Tide and Turf Portavogie, Portavogie, County Down, 2 September. Set along the harbour and fish market this free family event showcases local produce with a special emphasis on the renowned seafood and beef. Pick up a snack from the many food stalls or be inspired by chef Paula McIntyre on how to cook up a storm in your own kitchen! Children can try the pedal boats or sand crafts and there’s live music from The String Ninjas and Bangor band the Florentinas who are making big waves on the local scene.

  5. After the Rain, Derry ~ Londonderry, County Londonderry 26 August. The French circus Collective, Compagnie XY, accompanied by a 50 plus strong local ensemble of acrobats, local musicians and choirs will be in Guildhall Square. This specially commissioned event celebrates the resilience of the people and communities of the city 25 years on from the Good Friday Agreement.
  6. Fermanagh Fun Farm, Lisbellaw, County Fermanagh, 28 August. A fun day out for little children with the chance to meet 150 rescued and adopted animals. This social enterprise offers the opportunity to handle and feed some of the pets. A great day for hand on family memories with donkey and pony walking and grooming, a soft play area and indoor play barn.
  7. Downpatrick Racecourse, Downpatrick, County Down, 28 August. It’s Ladies Day at this historic course which has been hosting horses and riders for 150 years. Enjoy a fun day out of racing and fashion followed by live music. The turnstiles will open two hours before the first race.
  8. An Creagán, Omagh, County Tyrone, 25-27 August. Enjoy fantastic cycling and walking trails, all nestled in an area of outstanding natural beauty at the foot of the specular Sperrins. Catering for all tastes, there’s a wild wood for children and a forest walk and boardwalk for bigger kids. If history is your thing, there’s a reconstructed Bronze Age dwelling.   10. Belfast International Tattoo, Belfast, County Antrim, 1-2 September. Per head of the population there are more marching bands here than anywhere else in the world. This event is routed in the history, music, and dance traditions of the Ulster Scots. Pipe bands from across the globe will amass at the SSE Arena with the Majesticks Drum Corps and the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra among those taking part in this musical spectacle.

Starting at the beginning of the iconic Antrim Coast Road, the course sweeps into Larne Harbour offering not just one of the most beautiful but one of the fastest half marathons in the world. In addition to the main event there’s a one-mile street race for adults and children.
