Get into the festive spirit at the annual Ards Christmas Light Switch On this Friday 24th November. Join Cool FM’s Pete Snodden for a superb evening of Christmas fun featuring ‘Spark!’ a mesmerising street theatre show combining drums and light, that will lead the spectacular lantern parade from Ards Arena at 6.45pm.  At 7.00pm the parade will arrive in Conway Square for one last performance from Spark before the switch on finale.  Children’s entertainment including face painting and balloon modelling will be available in Conway Square from 5.30pm – 7.00pm.

The mists of time will descend on Armagh this weekend  for a celebration of the city’s glorious and historic past for the annual Georgian Festival.  A packed schedule of unique events for history buffs, tourists, families and foodies alike, will provide an unforgettable weekend across the city.  Now in its 14th year, Georgian Day culminates in the unmissable spectacle of the annual Animated Light Show which continues to attract thousands to watch Market House burst into life, transforming it into a shimmering canvas. This year’s ‘Five Gold Rings!’ show promises to be a show to remember.

Christmas officially starts in Enniskillen on Saturday 25th November with the Christmas lights switch-on in the town centre. The town will become a hub of live entertainment from late afternoon to mark the start of the Christmas shopping season so come along and get into the festive spirit! Enjoy Festive Family Fun at the Buttermarket from 12.00pm-4.00pm – visit Santa, enjoy festive music & Christmas arts and crafts. Entertainment will start at 3.30pm on The Diamond with music from Full Moon Fever & Sean Magee. The feast of festive events, organised by Mid Ulster District Council, kicks off on Friday 24th November at 5.30pm in Cookstown, with the switch on of the Christmas lights in the town. An evening of family entertainment awaits before a mile of magical Christmas lights illuminate the main street and the festive countdown begins. Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th also sees the return of the Winter Craft & Food Fair to the Burnavon, Cookstown. Running over the two days (10am to 5pm on Saturday and 1pm to 5pm on Sunday), you’ll have all the time you need to shop for the perfect, unique Christmas gifts and festive foods.

Derry/Londonderry

Get in the festive spirit and join Santa and his special guests at the Derry Christmas Lights Switch On, Thursday 23rd November from 6.00pm to 8.00pm.  There will be entertainment by walkabout street characters and live festive music on stages in Guildhall Square by Sensation and in Waterloo Place by Superstition. Special guests include Pantomime stars from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Jack and the Beanstalk

Antrim

The Victorian Street Fair and Steam Train Rides on Saturday 25th November, takes the form of a street fair with train rides at the Whitehead Excursion Station, offering visitors the chance to enjoy the unique steam experience.  Visitors will be able to see at close hand how this magnificent machine works.  You will be able to talk to the Driver and Fireman and to see the footplate.  Option to enjoy a visit to the Whitehead Railway  Museum and cafe.  Train rides running from 12:30pm to 3:30pm.

Belfast

Join Titanic Belfast from 22nd November  to the 23rd December to explore the Elves’ Workshop in the Magical Christmas Experience!  Step through the Old Curiosity Shop to enter the Magical Workshop and watch the excitement unfold as Father Christmas and his elves count down to their favourite night of the year. Peek into the toy shop where the elves have been hard at work and join Mrs Claus at her cosy kitchen to hear Christmas tales, before letting your creative juices flow with our arts and crafts or work with Father Christmas’ elves to write and post your Christmas letter.  Don’t forget to make a Christmas Wish to hang on the Magical Wishing Tree. Finally, wrap up your Magical Christmas Experience by having your name checked off our ‘Naughty or Nice’ list by our Chief Elf, then journey through the enchanted forest and meet Father Christmas!

A day of festive, free family fun is on offer at this year’s BIG Christmas Lights Switch On in Bangor, Co. Down, on Saturday 18th November.  Ards and North Down Borough Council has joined forces with ‘Main Street, My Street’ to put on a full day of entertainment that includes a Christmas market, a Winter Wonderland at Project 24, festive elf selfies, local school choir performances, Santa’s grotto, edible crafts and more.  All of which are the perfect prelude to Santa’s arrival and the official switch on and fireworks finale at 5.30pm.

The Charlemont and Moy Christmas event takes place this Saturday 18th November, beginning in Charlemont at noon.  Meet the elves and write a letter to Santa, then make your way to the Moy Square for the Christmas craft stalls, Annaginney petting farm, horse and cart rides, crafts for kids, cage football, carol singing and the main man himself Santa Claus switching on the lights at 4.45pm!

The Free Minors Club returns to the Strand Arts Centre this Saturday at midday with The Adventures of Tintin!  While shopping at an outdoor market, young reporter Tintin (Jamie Bell), accompanied by his faithful dog, Snowy, buys a model of an old ship called the Unicorn. A shady character named Sakharine, and later an American named Barnaby try to buy the model from him, but Tintin refuses. The lad discovers that the ship contains a clue about a hidden treasure, but before he can locate it, Tintin is kidnapped and given over to the custody of drunken Capt. Haddock.  There will be a maritime-themed arts and crafts workshop after the screening.

The award-winning Giant’s Causeway will open its doors on Saturday 7 October offering the local community the opportunity to enjoy the full visitor experience, free of charge to thank them for their ongoing support over the busy summer season.

Belfast

Saturday sensory development classes for new-borns up to 13 month olds with award winning Baby Sensory.  The venue is Newtownbreda Tesco community room. Cost £5 per baby.  With hundreds of sensory experiences and lots of ideas to try at home this is a class that supports baby development and includes baby signing, puppet shows and more.  The next session takes place on Saturday 7th October.

The Assistant’s Revenge is a detective story for children and adults, a murder mystery with a magical twist. This Saturday 30th September at the Market Place Studio Theatre with an unreserved, tiered seating layout.

This Saturday at Cathedral Hall Enniskillen, enjoy a screening of one of the most iconic children’s films, The Railway Children, which all the family will enjoy.  Part of Fermanagh Film Club’s weekend to commemorate the closure of rail services in Fermanagh. Screening at 11.00am. Admission is free.

Tyrone

The Light for Life Event at Loughmacrory Lough in aid of Care for Cancer takes place this Friday 29th September.   Come and celebrate the lives who have passed from or are currently living with cancer.  The twilight walk around the lough starts at 8.00pm with registration from 7.00pm. Lights for all participants, with music and refreshments.  This is a family friendly event – everyone welcome including dog walkers.

Derry/Londonderry

The Guildhall Derry City Wedding Fayre, in association with Perfect Bliss Wedding Shows takes place this Sunday October 1st from 2pm until 5pm with mini fashion shows throughout the day along with a grand prize draw.

Antrim

Celebrate World Animal Day this Sunday at Carnfunnock Park.  Join Debbie Doolittle as she introduces some of Northern Ireland’s most magical mammals. Monster Manor is back at W5!  And it’s even spookier than last year! Join the NICHS for their Causeway Coast Walk this Saturday 23rd September and fundraise to help support local people with chest, heart and stroke conditions.  The coastal walk from takes you along iconic sites such as Carrick-a-rede, Ballintoy Harbour and Whitepark Bay.  Hidden harbours with the smallest church and majestic views then onto the world famous Giant’s Causeway and the outstanding beauty of Portballintrae.  If you haven’t been before you owe yourself to witness one of the best walks our country has to offer and if you have already been, you know you will want to return!
