1.       Enniskillen Road Race, Enniskillen, 28-29 June. Quiet country roads will once again come alive to the sounds of motorcycle racing on closed public roads.

2.       Cycling Ireland National Road Championships, Derry~Londonderry,  27-30 June. Hosted by Foyle Cycling Club, this three day festival of racing will gives visitors to the city an opportunity to see the best of Irish racers, while taking in the sights of the historic city.

3.       Pirates Off Portrush, Portrush, 29-30 June.  A full programme of events will take place throughout the town starting with the Treasure Hunt, Pirate Dress and Dance Competitions. Through drama and entertainment, performed in the Amphitheatre and Antrim Gardens, the battle between the Leprechauns and Tavish’s Pirates is played out. Movement between locations is staged as a journey or pursuit with costumed characters, street entertainers, floats and musicians all taking part in a grand street parade.

4.       Belfast City Blues Festival 2019, Belfast, 28-30 June. This year’s programme has something for everyone. With over 60 free live gigs, ’Blues On The Boat ‘ music cruises and the festival’s new attraction ‘Blues At The River, Music And Food Fest‘ live from Donegal Quay at the Big Blue Fish, this year’s Belfast City Blues Festival is not to be missed.

5.       The Irish Game Fair & Fine Food Festival, Antrim, 29-30 June.  The Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle is in its 41st year, a serious county sports competition and as a fun-filled family day. There is action right across the fairgrounds and an all-day arena entertainment programme.

6.       Mourne International Walking Festival 2019, Newcastle, 28-30 June. The long-standing and perennially popular walking event returns to the Mourne Mountains. It provides a range of walks suitable for all ages and abilities, from lowland routes to traversing the highest peaks.

7.       The Magic Flute, Belfast, 27-29 June. A handsome prince, a damsel in distress, sorcerers, priests and a bumbling bird catcher – all are given life in Mozart’s sublime blend of lyrical love duets, folk-like ditties and the explosive coloratura of the Queen of the Night arias at the Grand Opera House.

8.       Causeway Coast Foodie Tours – Heart of Portrush Tasting Tour, Portrush, 28 June. Join your friends and embark on a 4.5 hour walking tour of Portrush’s only craft beer brewery and finest gastronomic establishments, visiting four venues to sample award-winning local produce. This tour is about getting together and sharing food, drink, experiences and stories.

9.       Comber Earlies Food Festival, Comber, 29 June. Expect interactive cookery demonstrations, an artisan food market, potato themed children’s craft, a vintage tractor display, Jump, Jiggle and Jive children’s dancing, Ark farm animal roadshow, a hay bale picnic and music from Cleland Memorial Band, the Lily of the Valley Accordion Band and the Comber Silver Band.

10.   Omagh Food Festival, Omagh, 29-30 June. The event is aimed at bringing together local producers and people with a love for food. There is something for all the family at Omagh Food Festival. In addition to the wide range of exhibitors & live cooking demos there is music, face painting and cupcake decoration for kids, all part of the line-up to the free event.

1.       Father’s Day Experience at the National Football Stadium, Belfast, 16 June. 2.       The Epic Journey to The 148th Open, Tyrone, 13 June. The Epic Journey to The 148th Open tour will include golf’s most iconic trophy, the Claret Jug, along with a giant #TheOpen letter sculpture, designed by Tourism NI and made out of 4,000 golf balls. Enjoy the opportunity to have your photo taken with the replica Claret Jug, chat with local sports stars and test your pitching skills as the tour comes to the Hill of O’Neill Visitor Centre  in Tyrone.

3.       Fun Run of the Glens (FROG), Ballymena, 15 June. Join hundreds of cyclists and runners taking on the Glens in this fantastic annual event. Challenge yourself on a number of cycling, running or walking routes with all proceeds going to Cancer Focus NI.

4.       Belsonic 2019, Belfast, 12-28 June. The popular  festival once again runs throughout June. This year’s massive line-up includes Slash, George Ezra, Hozier and The Killers, playing different dates throughout the month.

5.       Strajamba, Strabane, 15 June.  The live music festival returns to Strabane’s Canal Basin. In addition to headline act Nathan Carter, the festival showcases local performers including Mickey Joe Harte and David Oliver and hosts a great selection of food vendors. 

6.       Belcycle Festival, Belfast, 15 June. This event at the CS Lewis Square will host bikes of all shapes and sizes to test ride on the day including tandems, a side- by-side bike and balance bikes. Event includes activities such as children’s cycle training, maintenance workshops, led rides, giant outdoor games and a slow bike race. 

7.       Danny Boy Jazz and Blues Festival, Limavady, 13-16 June. The Danny Boy Jazz and Blues Festival taking place in and around the town centre of Limavady promises an array of top quality jazz and blues acts with headline act Clara Rose and special guests.

8.       Father’s Day Tea, Belfast, 16 June. Step back in time at Titanic Belfast  to a period of luxury, elegance and five-star service as you enjoy a sumptuous menu featuring a selection of finger sandwiches, classic scones with fresh cream, mouth-watering sweet treats and tasty savoury bites.

9.       Art in the Garden, Holywood, 15 June-1 July. The Culloden Estate, in conjunction with Gormleys Fine Arts, will play host to a unique art exhibition, including the largest collection of Dali’s works seen in Ireland.

10.   The Girl on the Train, Belfast, 11-15 June. Adapted from Paula Hawkins’ novel – an international phenomenon selling over twenty million copies worldwide – and starring Samantha Womack, this gripping new play at the Grand Opera House will keep you guessing until the final moment.

8.       Kaz Hawkins, Downpatrick, 7 June. ‘My Life and I’ is an intimate and personal show coming to the Down Arts Centre about Kaz’s life in song,  aiming to highlight mental health issues such as abuse, drug addiction, domestic violence and more. 

9.       Something in the Air, Belfast, 1-9 June. Coming to the MAC and produced by the Brassneck Theatre Company this play tells the tale of  hundreds of families fleeing south to refugee camps, escaping the violence, but one young woman lost more than just her home. Fifty years later, she is forced to confront the events of that summer in a way she could never have imagined.

10.   Paddle Boarding in Binevenagh, Limavady, 9 June. Flow with nature through Binevenagh, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, while on a stand up paddleboard lesson. This is a sport which can be enjoyed at any pace but will also give you time to take in the scenery while hearing about the heritage of the local area from knowledgeable instructors.

Show includes livestock judging, food tents with cookery demonstrations, agricultural products, artisan foods, local crafts as well as entertainment in the form of music, football competitions and tug of war.

7.       Cookstown Continental Market, Cookstown, 1-2 June. Cookstown Continental Market will feature over 40 traders from as far afield as Morocco, India, Belgium, France, Russia, Holland, Spain and China, who will set up stalls alongside local traders from the weekly street market.

8.       Belfast Girls, Downpatrick, 31 May. Packed with songs from the Belfast Girls page, this comedy play will have you dancing in the aisles. Also starring the hilarious Christina Nelson from ‘I’ll Tell My Ma’ and directed by Alan McKee (Handbag Positive)

9.       AVA Festival, Belfast, 31 May-2 June. The festival showcases the best in local talent across audio visual arts as well as bringing some of the best International artists in the field to Belfast. AVA have showcased shows in Belfast such as Jeff Mills & Guillaume Marmin’s ‘Close Encounters of the 4th Kind’, Bicep (Live), Larry Heard aka Mr Fingers (Live), Rodhad, Fatima Yamaha (Live), DVS1 and more.

8.       Belfast Titanic Maritime Festival 2019, Belfast, 25-27 May. The magnificent masts of the Tall Ships return to Belfast’s quaysides, signalling the start of one of the city’s most popular family events, the Belfast Titanic Maritime Festival.

9.       Hands Craft Festival, Omagh, 24-27 May. Rediscover Ireland’s rich heritage and lost traditional skills as An Creagán hosts this festival, aimed at teaching skills including foraging in the wild, lace making, firing pottery, straw craft, cordage, fermentation, frame loom weaving and herbalism.

10.   County Derry Fleadh 2019, Derry~Londonderry, 23-27 May. All of the competitions will be in St Brigid’s College and showcases unique musical talent within the area.

1.       Candlelit Tour Castle Coole, Enniskillen, 17 May. Castle Coole is one of the greatest neo-classical country houses in Ireland. Built to impress by the first Earl of Belmore 1789-97, it still has the ability to leave people in awe. As part of Museums’ Night, experience a candlelit walk through the upstairs and basement rooms and enjoy a glass of wine in the basement kitchen.

2.       Balmoral Show, Lisburn, 15-18 May. Come along and sample fantastic local food, browse over 650 trade stands, visit the funfair and be entertained by top names on the Downtown Show Stage. The show attracts more than 115,000 people over four days and takes place at Balmoral Park, Lisburn.  Local agriculture is very much at the heart of the event, and with livestock competitions, show jumping and the latest advances in agriculture on display, there is much to be enjoyed and the show offers something for everyone.

3.       Genealogy Conference, Armagh, 17-19 May. This three-day Genealogy Conference is the perfect opportunity to guide you in your family history research. Talks  include topics such as Tracing Armagh/Irish Ancestors, Emigration Records, Church & Civil Records, Researching Eighteenth Century Ancestors in Ulster, Research Convict Ancestors and History from Headstones.

4.       International North West 200 Race Week Festival, Coleraine, 11-18 May. The International North West 200 races have graced the roads since 1929 and celebrate their 90th anniversary this year. Taking place in Causeway Coast and Glens towns including Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine, you are guaranteed the warmest welcome as you experience world-class road racing whilst being part of the theatre and drama of the International North West 200.

5.       Hungarian Spice, Belfast, 16 May. This concert, at the Ulster Hall, may start in Baghdad (the setting for Weber’s Oberon), but is definitely flavoured with Hungarian spice. Bartók’s Divertimento is shot through with melody and rhythms derived from the Hungarian folk music he loved, while Brahms’s lively dances are settings of Hungarian themes.

6.       Wire Sculpture and Ceramics in the Mournes, Newcastle, 18-19 May. Join this Mourne Creative experience in the stunning setting of Gorse Hill Farm Bryansford, County Down. Learn how to create wire sculptures and your own porcelain range of trinket ware. The weekend also includes walks, dinner around the campfire and glamping.

7.       Apple Blossom Sundays at Ardress House, Armagh, 12 & 19 May. The Orchard County of Armagh is widely known for its apple growing tradition and the National Trust Ardress House is celebrating this heritage. Visitors can enjoy country teas in the historic threshing barn and relax in the rustic surroundings overlooking the orchards and the farmyard, along with tasting fresh baking and listening to traditional tunes.

8.       Enniskillen Continental Market, Enniskillen, 17-19 May. Food lovers and families can experience the very best international flavours and crafts as the award-winning Continental Market makes its first visit to Enniskillen. Traders will be located in the Courtyard within the grounds of Enniskillen Castle and will be offering a great selection of products from across the globe during the three-day market.

9.       Trouble Songs, Downpatrick, 18 May. Based on Stuart Bailie’s book, this sell-out show at the Down Arts Centre comes to life with songs, visuals and readings. Trouble Songs is about music and stories from contemporary Belfast.

10.   Stewart Francis: Into the Punset, Belfast, 16 May. Stewart Francis performs live at the Ulster Hall in the only Belfast date in his new tour, make sure that you catch him before he heads off… into the Punset.

  3. Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, 6–12 May. The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival continues its 20th birthday celebrations this week. Rufus Wainwright, Anna Calvi, and Roy Walker are among the star names descending on Belfast’s historic cultural quarter for a bumper programme of live music, comedy, literature, theatre, film, visual art and more.
  4. Slieve Gullion E-Bike Exploration Crossmaglen, Newry, 7 May. In celebration of GeoWeek, the Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership is offering a geology tour with a difference – an electric bike exploration of Slieve Gullion Mountain. The E-Bike Exploration is a unique opportunity to explore the landscape of Slieve Gullion Mountain from a bike saddle without the extreme exertion it usually takes to cycle up a mountainside, though peddling is still required.
  5. Festival of Fools, Belfast, 6 May. Established in 2004, the Festival of Fools has put Belfast firmly on the world map as a capital of street theatre and circus excellence. The festival is the largest comedy and street theatre festival on the island of Ireland, with more than 100 performances due to take place on the streets of Belfast City Centre and Cathedral Quarter. All shows are free to attend, and no booking is required.
  1. Seamus Heaney HomePlace and Landscape Tour, Magherafelt, 11 May. Take a trip to Seamus Heaney HomePlace and experience the landscape that inspired the world renowned Nobel Laureate. Explore Seamus Heaney HomePlace and visit the Forge, with a few little extras along the way, ending with a meal, traditional music and poetry recitals in The Old Thatch Inn.
  2. Art in the Orchard at Long Meadow Cider Company, Craigavon, 10 May. Join a professional visual artist for a unique day of creativity at Long Meadow Farm.   3. Antrim County Fleadh, Ballymena, 10 – 12 May. Musicians across Ulster are preparing for a busy summer as the Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann 2019 County Fleadhanna get into full swing. The County Fleadhanna presents excellent opportunities for musicians of all ages to participate and showcase their unique musical talent whilst each county has a colourful itinerary that will be enjoyable for visitors far and wide.
  4. Ulster Orchestra Rachmaninov’s Second, Derry~Londonderry, 9 May. Northern Ireland’s own virtuoso pianist, Barry Douglas, joins the Orchestra to perform Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto, often described as one of the best piano concertos ever written. A masterpiece of melodic writing, it’s no surprise that it is a regular choice on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, also featuring in the film Brief Encounter and Eric Carmen’s smash hit, All By Myself.
  5. Scenic Forest Walk at Florence Court, Enniskillen, 6 May. Join the Ranger for a scenic 9km trail in Florence Court forest. At the highest viewpoint enjoy panoramic views of Fermanagh and Lough Erne, the fourth largest lake in Ireland. Surrounded by lush parkland and thick woodland with Benaughlin Mountain rising in the background, Florence Court enjoys a majestic countryside setting in West Fermanagh. There is something for everyone to enjoy at this extensive and welcoming place.

10 things to do in Northern Ireland (29 April – 5 May)

  1. Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival Belfast, 2– 12 May. One of the sassiest, brassiest and classiest acts in the Irish cultural calendar – the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival is pulling the stops out for its 20th birthday. Rufus Wainwright, Echo and the Bunnymen, Anna Calvi, and Teenage Fanclub are among some of the star names descending on Belfast’s historic cultural quarter this year. The 11-day extravaganza will feature over 100 events in over 20 venues across the city centre, as the Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary with a bumper programme of live music, comedy, literature, theatre, film, visual art and more.
  2. Big Arts Weekend Cushendun, 3 – 6 May. Cushendun’s Big Arts Weekend is a four day festival of music, drama, poetry, exhibitions, workshops and family fun in one of the most beautiful villages in the Glens of Antrim. The programme has something for everyone and many of the events are free. While you’re there make the most of your trip and visit the spectacular caves featured in Game of Thrones®.
  3. Dunluce Castle and the Giants Causeway Sea Safari Trip, Portstewart, 5 May. Take a journey along the magical causeway coastline with Aquaholics and witness the stunning scenery. Starting from Portstewart harbour, will sail along the Causeway Coast to see the spectacular Dunluce Castle and the Giant’s Causeway en route.  As well as the amazing coastline, be on the lookout for dolphins, seals and a wide range of seabirds. The tour lasts two hours so don’t forget to wrap up.
  4. Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon, Belfast, 5 May.  Launched in 1982, the Belfast Marathon makes history in 2019 by moving to a Sunday for the first time ever. The event is expected to bring over 18,000 to Belfast.  Though the vast majority of entrants are local,  registrations come from the USA, Japan, Australia, across Europe and beyond. Whether you’re a marathon athlete, keen walker, fundraiser, interested in athletics at school or simply love a challenge, there is an event to suit you.
  5. South Down Craft Collective Monthly Market Ballynahinch, 4 May. Taking place on the first Saturday of each month at the Market House, Ballynahinch, the markets showcase the work of local artists, makers and food producers from South Down. Each month also has different guest artists and makers.  There’s a wide variety of stalls throughout the large foyer area and in the lovely Vincent Fulham Room, and a pop-up cafe serving tasty homemade treats and that well deserved cuppa.
  6. The Last Ulster Schooner – The Sailing Ship Result, Holywood, 29 April – 5 January 2020.  The Result was built in Carrickfergus Shipyard, Co Antrim, for the coastal cargo trade.  She is the last Ulster built ship left out of the hundreds of small sailing ships that plied their trade around the coasts of Britain and Ireland.  Follow her journey through the decades in this new exhibition and discover more about her life as a Q-ship in the First World War fighting German submarines, her starring role on the silver screen and her final voyage to where she now sits overlooking Belfast Lough.
  7. The Echlinville Distillery Tour Tasting, Newtownards, 29 April – 28 September. The Echlinville Distillery Tour and Tasting offers a real insight into the workings of Northern Ireland’s first newly licensed distillery for over 125 years. Includes refreshments on arrival at the historic Echlinville Manor House, a tour of the distillery incorporating their state-of-the-art stillhouse and maturation warehouse, followed by a tasting which includes two drinks of your choice from Echlinville’s range of premium spirits. A great day out for any spirits enthusiast.
  8. Ramble on Rathlin, Ballycastle, 4 – 5 May. Join a local guide and historian from Nine Glens Walking Tours on a short walk discovering the island’s history, heritage and industry. The gentle circular walk lasts 1.5 hours, finishing at the harbour just outside the Manor House and makes for a memorable day. The tour runs every Saturday and Sunday between April and September.
  9. Causeway Coast Challenge Walk Bushmills, 5 May. The annual Causeway Coast Challenge Walk for 2019 is set to run again this year on Sunday 5th May. This event is on its 41st year of operation and is run by local club Bannside Ramblers. The event continues to attract walkers from all over Ireland and further afield. Visitors to the Causeway Coast and Glen’s region can participate in the 30km long distance Challenge Walk along spectacular Causeway Coast cliff path.
  1. The Tain Tapestries – Louis Le Brocquy, Armagh, 29 April – 5 May.  One of Ireland’s foremost artists, Louis le Brocquy’s work is exhibited across the world, from New York’s Guggenheim to the Tate in London.  This wonderful exhibition showcases his illustrations to accompany the poet Thomas Kinsella’s translation of the epic Ulster Cycle narrative the Táin Bó Cúailnge (the Cattle Raid of Cooley).  It affords a rare opportunity to experience le Brocquy’s powerful combination of visual and narrative skills through the medium of tapestry, together with contextual information about this particular body of work.

  1. World Tattoo Festival, Lisburn, 26 – 28 April. Celebrating tattoo culture both nationally and internationally, the festival at the Eikon Exhibition Centre will feature over 300 leading international and local artists, including celebrity tattooist Megan Massacre, world famous multi-skilled performance group the Fuel Girls, international performers,  musicians, art exhibits, and much more.
  2. The Belfast Music Tour, Belfast, 27 April. The Belfast Music Tour is a journey across the city revealing the music, the artists and the landscape that help bring Belfast’s unique character to life.  The two-hour bus trip starts at the beautifully restored Ulster Hall, home to the Ulster Orchestra and host to many iconic acts over the years, including Led Zeppelin’s first ever performance of Stairway to Heaven in 1971. This is definitely a tour that anyone interested in music will want to know about.
  3. Easter Fun Day, Limavady, 22 April. Experience a fun and unique family day out this Easter at Foylehov Activity Centre. There are some great prizes to be won in our Easter Egg Hunt and lots of fun Easter themed team and mini-games. Take part in action-packed activities including Laser Combat, Laser Clay Pigeon Shooting and Football Golf.

Pizza and Pottery Night, Bangor, 25 April.  The popular Pizza & Pottery nights begin with a class where a potter will give a demo of throwing a pot on the wheel before teaching a hand building class. After making your very own pot you will be shown through to the café, to enjoy handmade artisan pizza. Bring your own bubbly or wine too!
  5. Variations on a Rococo Theme, Omagh, 25 April. ‘On Your Doorstep’ is a very special opportunity to catch a full symphony orchestra in the intimate surroundings of your local arts theatre. Featuring pieces by Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn and Bruch, the programme brings the Ulster Orchestra’s passion and magic to every corner of Northern Ireland. With world class soloists and guest conductors, there’s no better time than to give the Orchestra a go.
  6. Rampage, Magherafelt, 27–28 April.  Jungle NI host their third “Rampage Weekender” event, one of Ireland’s coolest obstacle adventure races.  Get ready to leap into some gut busting obstacles, lashings of mud, with a fantastic picturesque location, followed by an awesome after party and camping.
  7. Easter at HMS Caroline, Belfast, 19-28 April. Explore the famous ship through the exciting Easter Trail inspired by Blücher the Bunny, a naughty rabbit who lived on board during the First World War.  Find out more about life at sea for the men who lived on board, test your skills with the interactive exhibits and visit the Mess Deck Café for some tasty treats.
  8. Easter Celebrations at the Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh, 21–23 April. Stallholders, shopkeepers, travelling journeymen and a host of characters will keep you amused for hours on end this Easter as you stroll down Ulster Street witnessing the sights, smells and sounds of a busy market day in late 19th century Ulster. Try your hand at traditional crafts, enjoy storytelling sessions, taste seasonal treats, giggle at Punch and Judy, have a go at egg and spoon races or take horse and cart rides.
  9. Cruise the Lough at Crom Estate, Enniskillen, 22 April. See a different side to the spectacular Crom Estate from the waters of Lough Erne.  Cruise around in Crom’s 100 year old traditional craft, taking in the beauty and serenity of the Fermanagh Lakelands.  This event is weather dependent and booking is essential.
  10. Bubble Show Milkshake And The Bubble Flower, Belfast, 22–23 April.   1. tHillsborough Castle Easter Family Activities, Hillsborough, 18–28 April. A transformed Hillsborough Castle and Gardens will open its doors daily to visitors for the first time this Easter, with a host of exciting events and activities for all the family. ‘Be Our Guest’ offers families a chance to explore over 100 acres of majestic gardens. In a series of theatrical encounters meet fascinating characters from the Castle’s past including America’s founding father Benjamin Franklin, and the third Marquess of Downshire who will entertain the audience with folk tales in the enchanting Glen.
  2. Easter Surf Camp, Portrush, 15–25 April. Alive Surf School is the perfect place to take your kids this Easter with plenty of action and fun suitable for kids aged 5 to 16. As well as learning how to surf, the kids will learn about water safety and see a real improvement in their surfing. Everything is included from wetsuits to surf boards and even hot chocolate afterwards. Kids can come for individual days or more commonly for all four days. Parents are more than welcome to join in and go surfing each day with their kids.
  3. Easter Exhibition by Adrian Margey, Ballymena, 20–23 April. Artist Adrian Margey will hold a major exhibition and sale of his work at Galgorm Resort and Spa this Easter. Adrian has been hailed as one of the ‘rising stars’ of a new generation of Ulster artists. His latest work has been largely inspired by the Causeway Coast and the Glens of Antrim. The exhibition will also showcase dramatic Belfast cityscapes, portrayals of Donegal and the Mournes, and representations of traditional Irish musicians and dancers.
  4. Easter Street Theatre at the Causeway Coast, Ballymoney, 20–22 April. Visitors to the Causeway Coast can enjoy a weekend of free street theatre in the various town centres. Kids can watch exciting circus shows which incorporate a mix of slapstick comedy and circus skills including fire juggling, giant unicycles, stilt walking and fire breathing.
  5. Easter Extravaganza – The Ark Open Farm, Newtownards, 19-23 April. There will be lots of cute and cuddly chicks, bunnies, and little lambs to bottle feed.   With pony rides, quad barrel rides and tractor carriage rides there is something for all the family. Come join the Easter bunny trail and search for Easter eggs. Collect as many eggs as you can to win a prize.
  6. Stones In His Pockets, Belfast, 15–20 April. A small village in rural Ireland is turned upside down when a major Hollywood film studio descends to make a historical blockbuster on location. A pair of extras, Charlie and Jake, watch with amazement, envy and delight as cultures clash. Two actors play a vast array of eccentric and lovable characters in this universally loved, thought-provoking and witty comedy which has won numerous awards.
